In today’s globalised world, logistics and supply chain management is an integral part of operations and is essential to a company’s success. It orchestrates the seamless flow of products from production to the eager hands of customers. Through cost efficiencies, streamlined processes, and heightened customer satisfaction they play a pivotal role.

In order to access global markets, India needs to integrate with global supply which makes the logistics a crucial sector in the goal of its economic dominance. The Indian logistics market is estimated to be around USD 340 billion in 2025 and is likely to reach USD 480 billion by 2029 growing at 8% annually.

The emergence of quick commerce and the rapid growth of e-commerce are reshaping logistics dynamics in India, particularly in last-mile delivery solutions. To ensure faster and more efficient deliveries, companies are investing in hyperlocal warehousing, drone deliveries, and AI-powered route optimisation. These cutting edge technologies are helping companies to streamline their operations, improve customer services and reduce cost related to last mile delivery.

By leveraging real-time tracking, predictive analytics, and AI-driven warehouse management systems, companies are optimising supply chain processes. The integration of cutting-edge technologies and advancements in intralogistics, automation, warehousing, and transportation management heralds a transformative era for the logistics sector in India.

Adopting eco-friendly solutions to reduce environmental footprint is emerging as a central pillar for sustainable logistics. Green logistics focuses on the reduction of resource consumption while optimising operational efficiency. Government initiatives such as the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) is encouraging collaboration among logistics companies to reduce emissions.

India’s logistics landscape is transforming in multiple ways with the adoption of multimodal transport such as road, rail, air, and sea. The Government launched the GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP) and National Logistics Policy (NLP)to further enhance the multi-modal connectivity.

Looking ahead, the Government is exploring private sector participation in PM Gati Shakti, by granting access to non-sensitive data, to foster a collaborative environment through PPP. This move is expected to bring in additional resources, technical expertise, and innovative solutions, further accelerating project implementation.

India’s logistics sector is poised to evolve continuously through the combined impact of digital transformation, sustainability measures, infrastructure development, and trade facilitation. It will contribute significantly to the nation’s economic growth and global trade ambitions.
