Creative Economy is an evolving concept that
builds on the interplay between human creativity and ideas and intellectual
property, knowledge and technology. Essentially it is the knowledge-based
economic activities upon which the ‘creative industries’ are based.
The creative industries – which include advertising,
architecture, arts and crafts, design, fashion, film, video, photography,
music, performing arts, publishing, research & development, software,
computer games, electronic publishing, and TV/radio – are the lifeblood of the
creative economy. They are also considered an important source of commercial
and cultural value.
In a time of rapid globalization, many countries
recognize that the combination of culture and commerce that the creative
industries represent is a powerful way of providing a distinctive image of a
country or a city, helping it to stand out from its competitors.
India's creative economy is now a $30 billion
industry and creative exports were up 20% last year, generating over $11
billion.
With this background, the Indian Chamber of Commerce
(ICC) has formed the All India Initiative on Creative Economy (AIICE) to
explore the vast opportunities in the Creative Economy space.
Through the All India Initiative on Creative Economy, the
Indian Chamber of Commerce aims to not only elevate India's creative industries
but also to establish the country as a key player on the world stage. The
initiative will bring together stakeholders from various sectors to collaborate
on policies, research, and innovative projects that will shape the future of
India's creative economy.
